The M133.980 in the W176 A45 AMG was a statement engine — 360HP from 2.0L in 2013, then 381HP after the 2015 facelift. But the factory airbox in the W176 engine bay is a compromise: plastic housing, restrictive inlet path, and a design that prioritizes noise reduction over airflow. In a transverse turbo layout, every restriction between the airbox and the turbo inlet costs response and top-end pull.
Sealed Carbon Fiber: The Material Fix
EDDYSTAR's sealed carbon fiber airbox addresses the problem at the material level. Prepreg carbon fiber has a thermal conductivity roughly 1/40th that of aluminum — it does not conduct heat into the intake tract, and it does not retain heat the way plastic does.
